Two-Year-Old Dead. Because Her Parents Smoke Weed.

Yesterday, I posted a blog about Texas State Troopers sexually assaulting suspected marijuana users during road side stops. I thought then (and still do) that it was an outrageous and inexcusable consequence of our government trying to save us from ourselves as a course of the utterly insane War On (some) Drugs. I did not expect to be posting again today about another, even greater tragic outcome of marijuana prohibition.

But here it is: Child Protective Services in Texas removed two-year-old Alexandria Hill from her parents in January of this year when they admitted to smoking marijuana while the child was asleep. Yes, you read it correctly–that’s the crime for which the state justified kidnapping this child.

While Alexandria was in foster care she would repeatedly show up for visitation with her parents displaying signs of abuse such as bruises. Her parents, suspecting abuse, reported these incidents to CPS, which they said was responsive. But CPS did not react in time. On July 29, the foster parent, Sherill Small, beat Alexandria badly enough that she had to be rushed to hospital with head injuries. She was transferred to Scott and White Children’s Emergency Hospital in Temple where she remained in a coma until she was removed from life support on July 31.

Let’s call this what it is: Our elected government caused the death of a two year old girl because they think they know better than you what’s good for you and your family.
